A 5 minute experiment

Can we change the order of photos on a Google Business Profile?

Google doesn’t give you a way to sort the photos on your Google Business Profile, and the order has nothing to do with when the photos were uploaded. So how does Google decide?

The prevailing theory is that user engagement drives the order. Photos that accumulate more clicks, more views, and longer viewing times get elevated over time.

So maybe we can influence the order. With your help, we’re going to test it.

What you’ll do

  1. Test 1 — Clicking. Find one specific photo on a business profile, click it, and spend about 15 seconds interacting with it.

  2. Test 2 — Sharing. Find one specific photo on a second business profile and copy its share link. No dwelling this time.

Together the two tests isolate different signals: does dwell time move a photo, or does sharing? Each test takes a couple of minutes, and we’ll walk you through every step with screenshots.

Why we ask for your email

Only so we can count how many people completed each test — that number is the whole experiment. We won’t add you to any list.
